About Merge
A letter from Deirdre
Founder of MergeReal Materials. Unexpected Combinations. Your Style, Your Way.
I have never believed that a home needs to follow just one style.
My own home is a good example.
The bedroom I share with my partner has an American farmhouse feeling. Our living room is closer to modern Scandinavian design. My daughter’s room is a little rustic, while my son’s room has a more industrial character.
I do not expect everyone in my family to like the same things, so I do not expect every room in our home to look the same either.
When we choose lighting, we do not always ask, “What style is this room?”
Sometimes we choose a light because it blends in perfectly. Sometimes we choose one because it brings something unexpected. A colourful ceramic lamp can add personality to a calm Scandinavian room. A crystal chandelier can create contrast in a rustic home.
A modern metal pendant can sit comfortably above a traditional dining table.
For me, that is part of the joy of making a home. It does not need to look like it came from one catalogue. It should reflect the different people, memories and choices that make it yours.
That is where Merge began.
Where Different Things
Come Together
The word “Merge” expresses what we believe in: different things coming together to create something personal.
Different materials. Different shapes. Different periods. Different ideas of beauty.
We design and select lighting that allows these elements to overlap.
A modern silhouette can be paired with vintage brass. A simple, Nordic-inspired shape can be made expressive with coloured ceramic. A minimal metal structure can be softened by a pleated fabric shade or a floral detail. Glass can look elegant, playful, architectural or warm, depending on its colour, texture and the way it is combined with other materials.
There is no rule that says brass must look traditional, wood must look rustic or glass must belong in a formal space. Materials can change character when they meet a new shape or a different finish.
The same is true of interior style.
A lamp does not have to match every piece of furniture in a room. Sometimes it is more interesting when it adds contrast. A quiet room may need one bold colour. A classic space may come alive with a sculptural contemporary light. A simple home may become more personal with an unusual shade, an aged finish or a hand-crafted detail.
And different rooms in the same home can tell completely different stories.
You can create a calm bedroom, an expressive dining area, a playful child’s room and a dramatic entryway without forcing them into one common style.

No rules. No limits.
No frame. No definition.
Choose what you love. Combine what feels right. Let your home change with you.
Materials That Give
Light Its Character
Although style is personal, materials are where every light begins.
I pay attention to what a product is actually made of: the texture of the metal, the clarity of the glass, the variation in natural stone and the way each surface changes the light.
Metal brings structure and depth. Glass can clarify, soften or colour illumination. Travertine and alabaster bring natural movement and quiet warmth. Ceramic adds shape and colour. Fabric creates a softer glow, while Capiz shell and rattan introduce texture and a sense of hand-made character.

We are especially drawn to the relationship between iron and glass: rusted iron with clear glass, solid iron with milk glass, or a structured metal frame with ribbed glass.
These combinations are not chosen simply because they look good together. They are chosen because they create a particular feeling when light passes through them.
Some materials feel strong and architectural. Others feel gentle, tactile or almost weightless. Every material has its own voice, and the right combination can change the atmosphere of an entire room.
Material,
Made Luminous.
Lighting shaped by honest materials, thoughtful craft and the way they transform light.
Lighting for
Real Homes
Merge is for people who want their homes to feel considered, but never overly controlled.
Our customers may have a clear interior style, or they may be creating something that does not fit neatly into any category. They may want a matching pair of lights, or two completely different pieces in the same space. They may choose a lamp for its material, its colour, its shape, or simply because it makes them feel something.
We understand that choice because we make those choices ourselves.

We do not want to define your taste.
We want to give you more possibilities.
Growing
with Honesty
Merge is being built slowly and honestly.
We are continuing to learn about materials, improve our products and understand what our customers truly need. We know that a meaningful brand is not created overnight. It grows through care, responsibility and the willingness to keep improving.
Our promise is to pay attention to the things that matter: real materials, thoughtful design, careful making and the way a product feels in a real home.
We hold ourselves accountable and look forward to sharing our progress.
Thank you for being part of the Merge story.
