For an open room, add the room length and width in feet and use that number as an approximate fixture diameter in inches. Over a table, start around 50-67% of a rectangular table's length or a round table's diameter.
How low should pendants hang over a kitchen island?
A common starting range is 30-36 inches from the countertop to the bottom of the pendant. Adjust for sightlines, fixture shape, and household height.
How many pendants should I use over an island?
Compare a linear fixture, two pendants, and three pendants for the island's actual dimensions. The planner checks common 12, 16, and 20 inch shade families; actual shade diameter, equal end clearance, and measured shade-edge spacing determine which layouts fit.
Can I use a chandelier with an 8-foot ceiling?
Use a compact chandelier only when it preserves at least 7 feet of walking clearance. A flush or semi-flush fixture is usually a more practical starting point.
What color temperature works best at home?
