How large should my chandelier be?
For an open room, add the room length and width in feet and use that number as an approximate fixture diameter in inches. Over a rectangular table, start with a fixture about 50-67% of the table length. For a round table, use the tabletop diameter; for a square table, use the tabletop width.
How low should pendants hang over a kitchen island?
A common starting range is 30-36 inches from the countertop to the bottom of the pendant. Adjust for sightlines, fixture shape, and the heights of the people in your home.
How many pendants should I use over an island?
Compare a linear fixture, two pendants, and three pendants using the island's actual dimensions. The planner checks common 12-, 16-, and 20-inch shade sizes. The best layout depends on the actual shade diameter, equal clearance at both ends, and the space between the widest parts of the shades.
Can I use a chandelier with an 8-foot ceiling?
Use a compact chandelier only when it preserves at least 7 feet of headroom. A flush or semi-flush fixture is usually a more practical starting point.
What color temperature works best at home?
2700-3000K (warm white) usually feels comfortable in living, dining, and sleeping areas. Kitchens, bathrooms, and offices often benefit from 3000-3500K (warm to neutral white).
Can every pendant be installed on a sloped ceiling?
No. Check the specific product canopy, cord or rod system, permitted angle, and installation instructions before ordering.
